Presenting the Futures Trading Apprenticeship Programme (FTAP) - an immersive learning programme brought to you by Bursa Malaysia Derivatives and supported by the Capital Market Development Fund (CMDF).

Professional trading is often seen as an occupation with a high barrier to entry. There are various paths to enter the market, but your ultimate success relies on you. With hard work and patience, it can become a rewarding full-time career.

FTAP offers aspiring traders a fast-track to success! The 2-week programme conducted by seasoned professional traders is carefully designed to provide FTAP Apprentices with foundational knowledge on how to trade full-time in Malaysia's dynamic derivatives market. Upon completing FTAP, you can choose to become a self-employed trader or apply to join a proprietary trading firm.

We are looking for 30 ambitious individuals to join the programme. No prior trading experience is necessary. If you are a motivated Malaysian with a passion in the capital markets, FTAP is the right fit for you. Applicants will be assessed and selected based on their knowledge and personal attributes.

Application Requirements

  • You must be a Malaysian citizen who hold at least a diploma.
  • If you are a fresh graduate or in between jobs, we welcome you to apply.
  • You must possess a strong interest in trading and willing to learn.
  • It will be an advantage if you are familiar with Excel features such as pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, macros, and text functions.
  • Once you submit your application, you are deemed to have read and understood the FTAP Terms and Conditions.

Learning Objectives
  1. Understand the concept of equity index valuation and the importance of Fair Value (FV) in trading.
  2. Familiarise with the index producer, composition, and types of equity indices.
  3. Learn the factors affecting FV, including dividend forecasting and interest rates.

  5. Gain knowledge on equity index arbitrage and inter-index correlation.

FAQs


FTAP is open to Malaysian citizens who hold at least a diploma. Fresh graduates from colleges or universities are encouraged to apply. However, please note that seats are limited to 30 per intake. Applicants will be assessed and selected based on their knowledge and personal attributes. We will only notify the successful applicants via email. For more detailed information, please refer to the full Terms and Conditions provided HERE.

While trading experience can be beneficial, it is not a requirement to apply for FTAP. We welcome individuals from diverse professional backgrounds, life experiences, and educational qualifications. We encourage application from candidates who possess a strong interest in trading and demonstrate the competencies we are looking for.

Yes, there is a fee of RM610 (inclusive of 6% SST) to enrol in the FTAP upon successful application. This is a subsidised fee. For your information, the normal fee for a training programme with similar structure conducted by a recognised training provider starts at RM20,000. Please be sure to review the full Terms and Conditions for more details.

You can use online transfer to make the payment for the programme fee. Once your application for FTAP is successful, the Organiser will send you a confirmation email containing the bank details for the payment. You are required to complete the payment and send a copy of the payment receipt to the Organiser within 8 days from the date you receive the confirmation email or not later than 25 October 2023, whichever is earlier.

Please note that the enrolment in the FTAP is only complete after the programme fees is received by the Organiser. Failure to complete the payment within this timeframe may result in disqualification from enrolling in the FTAP.

The Futures Trading Apprenticeship Program (FTAP) is designed for a limited seat of 30 Apprentices. Please note that the Organiser will review applications on a first-come, first-served basis, with only the first 100 applications received being considered.

Throughout the application process, you will be asked to answer to a series of questions that are based on your personal experiences and perceptions. The Organiser will thoroughly review and evaluate your competencies based on your responses. Your overall score will determine your ranking. If your total score places you among the top 30 applicants, you will be selected as an FTAP Apprentice.

Yes. Prior to submitting this application form, you MUST complete the Derivatives E-Learning Series (DEL) provided by the Securities Industry Development Corporation (SIDC), which is available . The DEL program consists of 18 modules covering the basic knowledge and skills of trading in derivatives contracts. Through this e-learning series, you will gain insights into contract specifications, trading strategies, technical analysis, and risk management in derivatives trading, which will greatly enhance your learning journey during the FTAP.

Upon successful completion of the DEL, please email the screenshot of the DEL completion to [email protected] and state your FULL NAME as per NRIC in the email. This is a mandatory requirement.

The total programme duration for FTAP is 12 days. FTAP will start with a 2-day classroom training (Modules 201-203) conducted on 4 and 5 November 2023 (Saturday and Sunday), followed by a 2-week trading simulation class (Module 301) that will take place from 6 to 17 November 2023, weekdays only (Monday to Friday).

You will be given access to Trading Technologies Pro (TT) platform in Module 301 to experience simulated trading with live market data. TT is a premium professional trading platform with advanced trading features, such as:
  • Ability to view and trade multiple instruments simultaneously
  • Ability to construct and trade synthetic spreads
  • Ability to link with Excel for position updates
  • Provision of API for connecting to our internal risk monitoring system

With the support from the CMDF, we have planned a total of nine intakes from 2023 to 2026, including the upcoming intake in November 2023. Seats in the Programme are limited to 30 seats per intake.

Please note that the successful applicants are only allowed to enroll in this Programme once. Multiple enrolments in any future intakes will not be entertained or considered.

Don't worry if your application for this intake is unsuccessful or if you are unavailable to attend. Thanks to the support from the CMDF, we have planned a total of nine intakes from 2023 to 2026, including the upcoming intake in November 2023. No, you are not allowed to submit multiple submissions. Multiple submissions from the same applicant will not be considered for evaluation. The Organiser will only evaluate the initial submission of assessments received from each applicant.

The FTAP is an in-person training programme, it will be conducted at the Bursa Malaysia premise at Exchange Square, Bukit Kewangan, Kuala Lumpur.

  • 10-day experiential session: Bursa Trading Arcade (Mezzanine floor)
FTAP does not offer online classes, you must commit to attending the programme in person, following the schedule set by the Organiser
